About the practice

North Star Health

Psychiatric care grounded in evidence

Our clinical team

North Star Health's clinical staff includes board-certified psychiatrists and board-eligible psychiatric clinicians alongside licensed psychotherapists credentialed at the independent practice level, including licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional clinical counselors. The practice holds credentials as a non-negotiable threshold, not a marketing point, because the populations we serve require clinicians whose competency has been formally evaluated and sustained through continuing certification.

How we work

Diagnostic precision first

A careful diagnostic process is not preliminary to treatment; it is treatment. We allocate meaningful time at intake to characterize presenting conditions accurately, because imprecise diagnosis produces imprecise intervention. Our clinicians do not rush to a formulation before the evidence warrants one.

Continuity of prescriber

Medication management requires a clinician who knows your history, not one reading a chart cold. At North Star Health, patients in psychiatric care maintain an ongoing relationship with their prescribing clinician rather than rotating through available providers, which allows for more calibrated adjustments over time.

Research-anchored treatment selection

When evidence supports a specific modality or pharmacological approach, we follow it. When evidence is limited or contested, we say so and reason transparently with patients about the tradeoffs. Clinical enthusiasm is not a substitute for empirical grounding.

Coordinated psychiatric and therapy care

Psychiatrists and psychotherapists at this practice operate as an integrated clinical unit, not parallel siloes. When a patient receives both medication management and psychotherapy here, those clinicians communicate directly, share relevant formulation, and align on treatment direction.

What we hold ourselves to

  • Evidence over instinct. treatment decisions at North Star Health are anchored in peer-reviewed research and established clinical guidelines, applied to the individual in front of us rather than defaulted to as protocol.
  • Transparency about uncertainty. where the science is unsettled or a patient's presentation is complex, we say so directly rather than projecting false confidence, because informed patients make better partners in care.
  • Time as a clinical resource. appointment length is not a scheduling convenience; it is a factor in diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic efficacy, and we protect it accordingly.
  • Coordination as standard practice. communication between prescribers and therapists is built into the workflow of this practice, not left to chance or patient initiative.
  • Credentials as floor, not ceiling. every clinician meets or exceeds Minnesota licensure and certification requirements, and those requirements represent the minimum we accept, not the benchmark we celebrate.
  • No shortcuts in the intake process. thorough psychiatric evaluation at the outset reduces the likelihood of misdiagnosis, unnecessary medication trials, and therapeutic misfit, and we treat that rigor as an investment with a measurable return.

Our story

Effective psychiatric care is not a transaction. It requires time, precision, and a clinical framework that holds across appointments. At North Star Health, that framework is built into how we staff, how we schedule, and how we think about the work.

North Star Health was founded on a specific conviction: that outpatient behavioral health in Minnesota was too often fragmented between prescribers and therapists who rarely communicated, leaving patients to carry the weight of their own coordination. This practice was organized to close that gap, placing integrated clinical thinking at the center rather than at the margins. The goal was not to be comprehensive for its own sake, but to be coherent.

When you're ready, we are too.
